Times Like These by Kid Rock

The lakes and pines they bleed of beauty and grace
And the rivers they run wild like an endless race
The forests soar so high then fall to the sea
As church bells ring and sing in harmony

I heard them say they're shuttin' Detroit down
But I won't leave cuz' this is my hometown
And it's times like these we can't replace
It's time like these we must embrace
And even though it's bittersweet and brings us to our knee
It makes us who we are, in times like these

The concrete and steel stand strong against the wind
With the memories of what was and what has been
The sounds of sweet soul music and blue-collar blues
There were 17 colors for a Chevy all red white and blue
I heard them say that you can't save that town
But I won't leave, I will stand my ground

And it's time like these we can't replace
It's time like these we must embrace
And even though it's bittersweet and brings us to our knees
It makes us who we are, in times like these

The ice and snow give to a new spring bloom
In the wake that hope and faith they will be home soon
A new day dawns as the good Lord shines from above
Cuz in the rubble and rust there remains a whole lotta love

And I was here watchin' it all go down
And I'll be, when it comes back around
And it's time like these we can't replace
It's times like these we must embrace
And even though it's bittersweet and brings us to our knees

It makes us who we are, in times like these
It makes us who we are, in times like these

Time like these by Kid Rock describes the experiences in the U.S. and especially his hometown, Detroit where a tragic situation has occurred in 2008-2010. The Auto Crisis had big impact on the economy in Michigan. Kid rock tried to inspire others by singing this song to the world and to put them in their position and to image how they feel. The automotive industry was one the biggest in the U.S. and a lot of Americans lost their jobs and had financial problems. This beautiful song has hidden poetic devices which are:

Personification- treating an abstract or inanimate object as if it were living. As church bell ring and sing in harmony.

Parallel structure- writers use to describe similar ideas expressed in similar ways. It makes us who we are, in times like these It makes us who we are, in times like these

First point of view- a narrator uses an "I" or "we". I heard them say they're shuttin' Detroit down.

Imagery- used in lyrics writing to appeal to any or all of one's senses. And the rivers they run wild like an endless race.

Allusion- a figure of speech that makes a reference to, or representation of, a place, event, myth, literary work or work of art. A new day dawns as the good Lord shines from above.

Symbol- an object used to represent something powerful. The concrete and steel stand strong against the wind.

Simile- figure of speech comparing two unlike things, often introduced with the words "like" or "as."And the rivers they run wild like an endless race.

The most common poetic device that is used in poems or songs is rhyme, which is a repetition of similar sounds in two or more word. And it's time like these we can't replace It's time like these we must embrace

FEAR

As I walked silently down the alley, I had a hint of fear. I looked back from my shoulder to see if fear should exist in me. I heard something suspicious and looked back from my shoulder again, suddenly.... I saw from a far distance, a black shadow sitting against the wall. Stupidity has taken over me and I have decided to walk towards this shadow because it was curiosity. As I was walking rapidly towards this shadow, like a river flowing downward, I had the hint of a smell of a cigarette. Got closer and closer and it was a elderly man just looking at me as if he were innocent. I just stood in front of him just looking at his face and each wrinkle that sagged on his face was a curtain draping downward. I had a hard time seeing his whole face because it was covered by his base ball cap, creating a shadow. The wind was brushing slightly against me as I stood stiffly. His mustache was slightly moving like the bristles from an old broom moving. His eyes were a eclipse reflecting the light that gives a shine. As I looked deeper into his eyes, his eyes were pulsing through my head He stood up and took a puff from his cigarette. He sounded anxious and stuttered, "Don't do anything to me please! I have already been through a lot!" In my mind this man seem so familiar. Without a movement I was speechless.Realizing that he was my great grandfather! Ever since I remember that moment, I question myself, "Was this meant to happen? Even all these years I have forgotten about him."

SHOCK SHOCK SHOCK

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a touching tale between two men named Lennie and George. They are trying to struggle their way out of the depression in California and trying to fufill their dream. But a tragic ending ends the final chapter of friendship.

One of the main characters in this novel that I truly admire is Lennie. Lennie is a big innocent man who is mentally and physically challenged. He gives the novel a meaning which makes him as an character a powerful symbol. George who is a small man and has a warm heart is taking care of Lennie. When George tells Lennie to remember something he has a hard time remembering but listens to him carefully if a bad situation were about to happen.

As I watched the movie carefully I was having a hard time paying attention to it. I was pretty shocked who they chose as their characters. I disliked Lennie's character and I especially dislike the movie. The reason I don't favor Lennie in the movie is because he was not as powerful as he was in the novel. He did not sound like he was mentally challenged as I imagined in my head or when Mr. Van Camp was playing Lennie's character. One of the most effective scene was when Candy gave permission to Carlson to put down his dog. To see Candy go through a lot of pain made me imagine what he is going through. The most ineffective scene is at the end of the movie. During the movie George told Lennie,
"If you jus' happen to get in trouble I want you to come right her and hide in the brush."
Hide....in the....brush, Lennie replies slowly.
"Yep, hide in the brush, till I come for you.."
Lennie exclaimed, "Sure I can, George." What caused Lennie to run to the brush is when he tragically killed Curleys wife. George had to get to Lennie before Curley and the other men did. George told Lennie about their dream and instantly killed Lennie as if they were trying to rush through the end. Without enough detail in the movie just like the novel it's not worth watching. I thought the end was going to be the most effective scene but it wasn't.
I'll give out of a possible five stars, Of Mice and Men a 2 and it was playing in theaters at Pen Mar Cinema in 1992.

♥HOT CHEMISTRY♥

As George was walking to the barn Lennie curiously asked, "George where are you going?"
George replied, " Don't worry Lennie I'm just taking this horse back to the barn."
"Ok George I'll just be right here."
George started walking towards the barn and eventually walk into the barn with the horse.George suddenly heard something.
George shouted, "Who's there!"
"Have you seen Curly?" Curleys wife asked out of nowhere.
"No I haven't seen him and he is probably with the other guys outside."
"Oh well I better get going than," Curleys wife replied.
"What is wrong with you? Popping out nowhere and
frightening people to death!" George angrily asked.
"What's wrong with me? There is nothing wrong with me at all." as she was
flickering her eyes.
George just kept staring with his
twinkling eyes at Curleys wife.
Curleys wife curiously asked George, "Why are you staring at me like you are crazy as a clown?" George just kept staring and never spoken a word.
Eventually George replied, " Uhh what was that?"
WHY ARE YOU STARING AT ME?
"What are you talking about," George innocently asked.
"Balogne!" as she giggled, " you think I'm beautiful like a flower right?" as she smiled at him.
George desperately asked, "Please don't tell your husband this but yes I think you are more beautiful than a flower."
"Awe you are sweet as a puppy and you better stop with that charm of yours because you are giving me butterflies in my stomach!" as Curleys wife giggled to herself.
As George was smiling he just stared at her again. Curleys wife slowly started walking towards
him and he started to get sweaty palms. When Curleys wife was in front of him she just started walking around him like a circle.
Without moving a muscle George just stared and said, "You better find your husband."
Curleys wife did not say a word to him. Suddenly flames started to heat up between them as they were both staring at one another. As chemistry was developing they instantly fell in love.
Curelys wife stated, "I have never been so attracted to a man in my life."
"Really?"
"Yes silly," Curleys wife replied, "just look at us we are
developing chemistry like we are stacking up wood."
George just couldn't reply to her anymore, as if he were
dumb as a rock.
Curleys wife asked, "Would you love if we were to get together and just leave this pig pen?"
"What!" George shrieked and his
heart started to pound, "I can't leave Lennie alone he's like my brother to me."
"Oh I forgot about him."
"This would be a
waste of my time if I ever left with you," George stated angrily.
"How cruel of you to say that!" as Curleys wife shouted and quickly turned her back towards him.
Lennie came inside the barn and yelled, "George where are you!"
"I'm ok Lennie I'm just right here beside the horse."
George thought to himself man
she is hott stuff and I wouldn't be able to breath if I ever gotten with her but it would be the time of my life.
